Process has begun to change City Section uniform rule

In the wake of Narbonne’s girls’ basketball team briefly being removed from the playoffs for wearing uniforms with pink letters and pink numbers in violation of a City Section rule that requires schools to wear uniforms only with their school colors, El Camino Real High has put together a proposal to modify rule 1305.
In an email sent Tuesday to schools in the City Section, El Camino Real is asking for support of a proposal that would allow teams once a year to wear a “home uniform color associated with a charitable campaign (e.g. wearing pink for breast cancer awareness).”
El Camino Real had sought a waiver for its soccer teams to wear pink that was rejected previously. El Camino Real’s proposal would maintain the penalty of forfeiting a contest for wearing illegal jerseys.
Narbonne wore the pink jerseys without requesting a waiver. City Section Commissioner John Aguirre ruled Narbonne would be removed from the playoffs before an appeals panel overturned the decision and put the Gauchos back in Saturday’s Open Division championship game. Coach Victoria Sanders has been suspended for the rest of the season.
The rule change must be approved by the City Section’s Board of Managers.
