Peninsula, Whitney lead high schools with most academic team awards

Peninsula and Whitney each had five different teams win awards from the Southern Section for having the highest team grade-point averages among 24 team sports.
Peninsula teams that placed first were in the sports of boys soccer, softball, boys track and field, competitive cheer and wrestling.
Whitney placed first in boys water polo, boys volleyball, girls tennis, boys tennis and girls cross country.
Pasadena Poly and Temecula Valley won the award for football.
