Football: Upheaval at Upland
Two assistant football coaches at Upland have been removed from their jobs and three players were declared ineligible by the Southern Section in the latest controversy surrounding a Highlanders program that has been battling section officials after 13 students transferred in since the end of the last school year.
Players were informed that assistant coaches Eric Martinez and Mike Jones would no longer be associated with the program.
A message left for Coach Tim Salter on Thursday night was not returned. Upland is scheduled to play Santa Ana Mater Dei in its season opener on Friday. Players are reportedly upset about the loss of the two coaches.
The Southern Section and Upland Unified School District launched an investigation into the unusual amount of transfers.
