Troy Dumais has one more shot at record fifth Olympic Games

A few months ago, diving legend Greg Louganis was talking about Troy Dumais’ quest to become the first American in their sport to qualify for five Olympic Games.
“I love Troy,” said Louganis, the four-time gold medalist. “It’s exciting to see athletes continue on longer than anyone expected.”
But now the chances of Dumais setting the record appear unlikely.
The 36-year-old Ventura native finished second in the synchronized 3-meter event — which figured to be his best opportunity — at the U.S. Olympic trials earlier this week.
That means Michael Hixon and Sam Dorman will represent the U.S. in synchro this summer.
Dumais, who won bronze with partner Kristian Ipsen at the 2012 London Games, has one more shot in the individual springboard on Saturday.
He sits well back, in fourth place, with the top two finishers qualifying.
“No matter what, let’s enjoy it,” Dumais told NBCSN. “Thank you for the memories.”
