After Pontiac Silverdome survives implosion, everybody has a joke

The upper level of the Pontiac Silverdome was supposed to implode on Sunday. But it didn’t.

Sure, there were explosions and lots of smoke surrounding the one-time home of the Detroit Lions and Pistons. But no implosion.

Here’s the Silverdome moments before thousands of denotations went off.

And here it is afterward, looking pretty much as it did before all the explosives went off.

Rick Cuppetilli, executive vice president of demolition contractor Adamo Group told the Detroit Free Press that about 10% of the explosive charges did not detonate due to a wiring issue. As a result, the steel columns in the upper level did not come down.

He added that those columns might be removed at some point this week.

All of this, of course, led to plenty of snide comments on Twitter.

And kudos to the person who set the whole thing to Elton John’s ’80s hit, “I’m Still Standing” in a YouTube video.
