Carl Pelini resigns as Florida Atlantic coach amid drug accusations

The football coach named Pelini who lost his job this week was Carl, not Bo.
While speculation swirls about the future of Nebraska Coach Bo Pelini, it was his older brother Carl who made news Wednesday when he abruptly resigned as Florida Atlantic coach over charges of “illegal drug use.”
Pelini, midway through his second year, was not allowed to address the team and exits with a 2-6 record this year. Defensive coordinator Pete Rekstis also resigned.
Athletic Director Pat Chun said no other school officials or players were involved in the incident.
“It’s a heartbreaking day for us all,” Chun said at a news conference.
ESPN reported the resignations stemmed from a party attended by Pelini and Rekstis at which marijuana was allegedly present.
Offensive coordinator Brian Wright was named the Owls’ interim coach.
Carl Pelini released a statement saying, “I apologize for exercising poor judgment.”
Florida Atlantic is coming off a 45-10 loss to Auburn and hosts Tulane on Saturday.
