Auto Club Speedway said Tuesday that IndyCar’s drivers plan to hold a day-long test session at the Fontana track on Sept. 24.
The session, which is free and open to the public, is in preparation for the MAVTV 500 on Oct. 19, a night race and the season finale that will determine the champion of the Izod IndyCar Series.
Drivers expected to participate include reigning champion Ryan Hunter-Reay, this year’s Indianapolis 500 winner Tony Kanaan, Dario Franchitti, Marco Andretti, Helio Castroneves and Castroneves’ teammate Will Power, who won last weekend’s race in Sonoma.
Spectators at the test session, which runs 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., will be allowed to watch from the Terrace Suite rooftops above the pit road in the infield of the two-mile speedway.
