Liverpool may have lost the English Premier League title but it won the most places on the English World Cup team, which was announced Monday.

Five Liverpool players -- defender Glen Johnson, midfielders Steven Gerrard, Jordan Henderson and Raheem Sterling, and forward Daniel Sturridge -- will represent the runner-up Reds in Brazil.

Manchester United placed four players on the team, one ahead of Everton and Southampton. Among the Southampton selections was 18-year-old left back Luke Shaw, who will take Ashley Cole’s left-back spot on Manager Roy Hodgson’s young team.
