USC football: Interim Coach Ed Orgeron silences most practice music

Ed Orgeron continues to put his stamp on USC’s program.

The Trojans’ interim coach -- who reopened practices to the media, brought desserts back to the training table and let players coach in a “Trojan Bowl” scrimmage during the bye week -- eliminated nearly all music from practices except for during a few periods.

“The music creates a little energy,” Orgeron said, “but I like them to hear us coaching.”

Orgeron also stripped quarterbacks of the yellow jerseys they have traditionally donned to warn against contact.

“One team, one heartbeat,” he said.

Quipped quarterback Cody Kessler: “I wasn’t a big fan of yellow. Yellow’s not really my color.”

USC plays Arizona on Thursday night at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
