A fundraiser at the Laguna Beach Ruby’s Diner late last month generated more than $20,000 for Special Olympics athletes.
The Tip-A-Cop event, a collaboration between the Police Department and Ruby’s, held July 23 at the South Coast Highway restaurant, raised $20,136, Ruby’s marketing manager Christina Paniagua said in a news release.
The proceeds will benefit the Special Olympics’ Orange County region, which offers year-round sports opportunities to athletes with intellectual disabilities.
Officers and athletes greeted customers, delivered drink and food orders, and interacted with restaurant guests during the fundraiser.
On Thursday, officers and athletes reunited for a check presentation.
