Deal: Boat and midweek room on Catalina Island for $138 per person

Catalina Island is at its greenest right now, making it an easy-to-get-to spring destination. Now Hotel Villa Portofino in Avalon makes it a deal too. Starting at $138 per person, you’ll get a room and boat ride -- with no minimum stay.
The deal: The Spring Savings Package applies Sundays through Thursdays; weekend prices are higher. I like this package because it works if you want to pop over for a single night.
The package starts at $138 per person, based on double occupancy. It includes round-trip Catalina Express ferry service from Long Beach, San Pedro or Dana Point (slightly higher price) as well as a room, continental breakfast, free wi-fi and free taxi service to the hotel.
When: The offer is good through May 19.
Tested: I checked random dates in April for a one-night stay and found a room with a queen-sized bed for $126 each, including tax. That’s an amazing deal (and less than the advertised price) when you consider that San Pedro-Catalina round-trip boat costs $72.
