Got a day to spend in Sacramento? Make it free-admission Museum Day

Planning a trip to California’s state capital? More than 25 museums in Sacramento will open their doors to visitors for free or half-price admission Feb. 3 on the city’s 20th Museum Day.

The deal: You likely won’t have time to visit all the Museum Day sites in one day. It’s worth checking out the list of participating museums and planning which ones you want to see. Here are some you may not want to miss:

--California State Railroad Museum at 125 I St. (usually $12 for adults), where you can see 19 steam engines and other rail-centric exhibits;

--California Automobile Museum at 2200 Front St. (usually $10 for adults), which has more than 150 vehicles, from the 19th century to the present; and

--Sutter’s Fort State Historic Park at 2701 L St. (usually $5 for adults), a restored mid-19th century California pioneer settlement.

The Sacramento Zoo will offer half-priced admission ($7.50 for adults, $5 for children 2 to 11 years old), and Fairytale Town kids park cuts prices to $2.88 per person.

When: Free and reduced admissions are good Feb. 3 only.

Details: Museum Day runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at most sites; last guests are admitted at 4 p.m. Also, some museums may limit the number of visitors because of their size.
