Restaurants at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park close after small fire

Two restaurants at a historic hotel in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park have been temporarily closed after a kitchen fire Tuesday that injured one employee.
The Rim restaurant and Uncle George’s Lounge at Volcano House, the only hotel within the national park on the Big Island, will remain closed while investigators determine the cause of what a news release described as a “small blaze.”
Both restaurants are expected to reopen Thursday, said David MacIlwraith, general manager of Hawaii Volcanoes Lodge Co.
Firefighters, medics and park rangers responded to the alarm around mid-morning. A 42-year-old hotel worker was taken to a hospital with burns on his upper arms. His condition is unknown.
The lodge, which sits at the sits on the edge of the active Kilauea volcano, reopened in 2013 after an extensive renovation.
There has been lodging on the site since 1846, when a grass hut was built to house visitors to the volcano.
