L.A.’s Millennium Biltmore Hotel to start room updates in spring

One of L.A.’s iconic hotels that’s been around more than nine decades is about to receive some TLC.

The Millennium Biltmore Hotel Los Angeles in Pershing Square will begin sprucing up its 683 guest rooms and suites starting in spring, the hotel announced Wednesday.

After the multimillion-dollar renovation, “classic guest rooms will feel crisp yet inviting, with a warm gray palette complementing the 1920s Italian Renaissance architecture,” the hotel statement says.

Work will be done in phases, 30 to 40 rooms at a time, without any closures at the hotel. Other updates include touch-ups of the hotel’s four ballrooms.

The architectural gem known for its lavish murals and frescoes as well as marble fountains and vaulted ceilings opened as the Los Angeles Biltmore Hotel (of the Biltmore chain) in 1923. At the time, it had 1,500 rooms and was the biggest hotel west of Chicago.

Over the years, rooms and suites have been reconfigured, though it’s still large by hotel standards. It’s also an L.A. Historic-Cultural Monument.

L.A.’s Biltmore turned up as one of the 2014 top 10 filming sites in the city. Parts of “Bad Judge” and “Hell’s Kitchen” were filmed there last year.

Millennium Hotels and Resorts is also renovating properties in Anchorage and Buffalo, N.Y.
