Carlsbad: La Costa Resort rooms sport a new look -- and a $199-a-night deal

La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, Calif., is finishing a $50-million renovation of rooms, a spa and golf course. In honor of the new look, online travel company Travel-Ticker.com has a good offer for this 400-acre resort. Rooms start at $199 a night, including several extras.
The deal: To get the Travel-Ticker La Costa Experience Package, you have to start by using the promo code “Travelticker” when you reserve online or by phone. The package includes breakfast for two; a $25 credit good toward a round of golf or spa treatment; free parking; and resort fees.
When: The deal is good for stays through Sept. 30, with blackout dates, but you must book by June 8.
Tested: I called to get this deal and, using the promo code, found availability on June 26 for a plaza room with a king-sized bed at the $199 plus tax rate. Then I checked online and found the best available rate for the same room on the same night was $229 plus tax and $22 in resort fees.
Also, I asked about the condition of the resort. The reservations agent told me renovation on the rooms and spa are done, and there’s no noise or interruption of services because of ongoing work on the golf course.
Note to those who book online: The Travel-Ticker.com offer is not the same as the La Costa Experience Package; that offer has different rates, rules and promotion code.
