Gear: iPad stand charges and adjusts
We’ve fallen in like with the Mophie Powerstand for iPad. This lightweight aluminum stand is the first I’ve seen that has a built-in iPad charging port as well as gripper arms that let you rotate the tablet for vertical or horizontal operation.
The stand can even be used as a stabilizer for the iPad’s rear-facing camera. The dual-hinge neck lets you adjust your tablet to just the right height, and the stand folds down for storage and transport.
The base integrates LED power indicators. The stand comes with either a Lightning or 30-pin connector port, for charging and syncing, and includes a USB cable and AC power adapter. The whole thing weighs about 2 1/2 pounds, not featherweight but sturdy, and will stash in most laptop bags.
You’ll need to add your own Bluetooth keyboard, but I found the other features worth the trade-off. Maybe the next rotating Mophie stand will incorporate a keyboard (please).
Mophie iPad Powerstand with Lightning or 30-pin connector is $149.95; (888) 866-7443, www.mophie.com.
