B.W. COOK
Lido Isle’s Lorraine Hennessey, dedicated volunteer, fund-raiser,
event chair and sometimes kitchen worker and plumbing repair woman,
is all things to Heritage Pointe, an assisted-living facility serving
Jewish seniors in Orange County. Lorraine will chair the upcoming
Nov. 22 fund-raising gala, whose theme will be “An Evening by the
Sea.”
The dinner and auction will take place at the new Balboa Bay Club
Resort Hotel. The proceeds will benefit the Heritage Pointe Resident
Assistance Program, which underwrites seniors with limited or no
financial resources.
To kick off the event, organizers, including Valerie Sloane, are
inviting patrons to brunch on Sunday, Oct. 19, at Big Canyon Country
Club in Newport Beach. Feryne Margolin and Betty Sackler, co-chairs
of the fund-raiser, will assist in the hosting duties for both the
upcoming brunch and the gala.
This year, Hank Schrimmer and Estelle and Dick Blake will be
honored for their support to the residents of Heritage Pointe. For
more information on the upcoming events and to help Heritage Pointe,
please call Pamela Davis at (949) 364-9685.
FOUNDERS PLUS
The original founders of the Orange County Performing Arts Center,
known as Founders Plus, is planning a special afternoon reception on
Sunday, Oct. 19, at the Newport Coast estate of Leonardo Flores.
The Founders Plus group is a very special and important
organization of visionaries who worked above and beyond the call of
duty to help create a cultural landmark that has been instrumental in
elevating Orange County to national acclaim and world-class status.
Some of the members are wealthy and powerful, and others are just
plain smart and hard working. Together they are a formidable bunch.
They will gather informally this year at the Flores residence to
honor Elizabeth Colyear Vincent. Ruth Ding, chairwoman of the
afternoon soiree, is being supported by Tom Moon. Committee member
Jan Landstrom of Newport Beach reports that the afternoon
entertainment will be provided by husband-and-wife team Richard
Kinsey and Susan Montgomery. For more information on Founders Plus,
please call Landstrom at (949) 640-4707.
FREE CONCERT

Irvine Extension program, has announced a free concert for the

Corona del Mar.
Rockefeller invites everyone to come with a picnic dinner feast
and enjoy a late summer concert in the park performed by Orange
County’s own Pacific Symphony. The orchestra will present Prokofiev’s
“Peter and the Wolf,” a family favorite infused with classical and
patriotic music.
The symphony presentation will be sponsored and underwritten in

Republic Bank and the city of Newport Beach. Before the concert,
maestro Carl St. Clair will offer a free conducting clinic for
children.
For more information, please call Christopher Trela at the Pacific
Symphony (714) 876-2383.
SUPPORTING KOCE
Celebrity chef Roy Yamaguchi jetted in from Honolulu this past
week to host a very special evening at the Fashion Island restaurant
bearing his name in support of KOCE-TV President Mel Rogers and a
group of generous donors supporting the public television station.
KOCE-TV has been a hot topic in the news of late because of the
sale of the station. Television evangelists are offering top dollar
for the venue, creating a significant community debate over the use
of public airwaves and the influence of the almighty dollar.
Heavy hitters at the Rogers reception included corporate
representatives from Boeing California , OCTA, the Ford Motor
Company, the Fluor Corporation, Greenstripe Media, Wells Fargo Bank
and the Orange County Business Journal.
Yamaguchi and his chef partner Chris Garnier prepared a
spectacular four-course dinner for the patrons who had come to Roy’s
in support of public television.
