Green Lightning zaps Black Magic

The Green Lightning opened postseason play in South Huntington Beach
girls’ fast pitch 10-and-under division Monday with a 4-0 shutout of
the Black Magic.
Green Lightning pitcher Lauren Deats threw a three-hit shutout
with 10 strikeouts.
Deats, Amanda Sneed, Chanel Luis, Dana Kerins and Shannon Wolf
each had hits for the Green Lightning. Wolf also drove in two runs
and Sneed and Carolina Luque each had an RBI.
Nikki Watkins scored an insurance run in the third inning for the
final run of the game.
For the Black Magic, Angie Santopaolo threw two shutout innings,
and Alison Jahansouz, Sam Santopaolo and Megan Anderson each had
hits.

Too Fast / Too Furious 1
Pitching and defense dominated this late regular-season game,
which ended in a tie.
Lauren Deats and Dana Kerins combined to give up two hits for the
Green Lightning. Logan Vournas had a hit and scored a run, and Chanel
Luis had two hits and drove in the one run for the Green Lightning.
Kelynn Mullally and Danielle Bonham combined on a three-hitter for
the Fast & Furious. Mullally had both hits and was driven home on a
sacrifice by April Geary to score the only run for Too Fast/Too
Furious.
Too Fast/Too Furious shortstop Kelly Nemes made a diving catch to
rob Kerins of an RBI single in the third inning. Mullally made an
outstanding play on a grounder by Deats to stop the Lightning’s
bases-loaded rally and end the game.
Batz Gone Wild 4,
Green Lightning 2
Batz pitcher Carly Bradford shut down another last-inning bases
loaded rally by the Green Lightning to clinch the victory.
Karly Tahti and Bella Secaira were also solid on the mound for the
Batz, holding the Green Lightning to two runs on three hits.
Secaira also had two hits and drove in a pair of runs on offense,
Kailee Hull had two RBIs and Mercedes O’Conner had a hit and scored a
run. Bradford, Madison Hickman and Chelsea Rose Dial also scored for
the Batz.
Lauren Deats, Amanda Sneed and Logan Vournas had hits for the
Lightning. Deats drove in Kerins in the third, and Breanna McCaa hit
a sacrifice to bring in Shannon Wolf for the Lightning’s other run in
the fourth.
In Huntington Beach Girls Softball action:
8-and-Under Division
Uh-Oh! 10, Pink Punks 1 Uh-Oh! 9, Pink Power 4
Uh-Oh! won its two recent outings, defeating the Pink Punks and
Pink Power.
Against the Punks, Uh-Oh! pitchers Dana Rutkin, Stephanie Lakso
and Jane Reynolds combined for nine strikeouts in the 10-1 win.
Rutkin had five of those strikeouts, allowing one hit. Lakso struck
out two and Reynolds, in her pitching debut, fanned two.
Reynolds, Lakso, Rutkin and Morgan Renaud each had two hits and
Emma Silvestri and Gwen Seymour singled.
Uh-Oh! had to conquer a 3-1 first-inning deficit to defeat Pink
Power, scoring six runs in the second inning to take a 7-3 lead.
Rutkin drove in two runs on a single and a fielder’s choice and
Reynolds drew a walk to bring in another. Silvestri singled, Lakso
delivered a two-run single and Kathryn Evans and Savannah Vukelich
each had hits to ignite the rally.
Pink Power threatened to score again by loading the bases on three
walks, but Rutkin was brought back in to put out the fire. She
proceeded to strike out three and walk one, which allowed Uh-Oh! to
keep the lead at 7-4.
Uh-Oh! scored two more runs when Seymour drew a walk scored on a
hit by Reynolds, who later scored on a throwing error.
Lakso came in to strike out the side and end the game.
In other softball action:
Sluggers 6, Angels 0
Alison Andrew doubled twice and drove in three runs to power the
Surf City Sluggers past the Huntington Beach Angels.
Jennifer Snyder finished with a single and double and pitched
strong in relief, and Bailey Murchinson singled with an RBI for the
Sluggers.
