Ducks, Spurs share top spot

The Ducks and Spurs share the top spot in the regular season
standings at the conclusion of the first half of play, in the city of
Laguna Beach’s-sponsored Junior Basketball League.
The Ducks, coached by Max Jaffe, and the Spurs, coached by Cataldo
Alessi, ended first-half play with identical 4-1 records.
Ducks 61, Artists 40
League scoring leader Ryan Lawler, who had a 36 points-per-game
average coming into this game, scored 29 points as the Ducks led
wire-to-wire in making the Artists their fourth-straight victim.
Cody Duplisea scored 10 points and Alec Jaffe and Kyle Jenkins
each scored eight for the Ducks.
Lance Knapp paced the Artists, coached by Ian Butters, with 19
points, which included three triple-point baskets.
Teammate Scott Chapel added 10 points.
Spurs 65, Hawks 61
Four Spurs scored in double figures as the team won their third
consecutive outing.
Matt Karam led the way with 22 points, followed with 13 by John
Palfryman and 10 apiece by Jason Colladay and Andrew Levin.
The Hawks, coached by Brian Bergen, were led by game-high scorer
Erik Vasquez who poured in 35 points, including five three-point
baskets.
Brett Thompson finished with 12 points for the Hawks.
Kings 61, Tar Heels 49
Matthew Moisen scored 20 of his game-best 26 points after halftime
as the Kings, coached by Bobby Monroe, posted their first win in the
regular season.
The Kings had trailed at the half, 33-25, but Moisen’s output and
Erich Vickers scoring all 10 of his points after the break, ignited
the comeback.
Dylan Roley hit five three-point baskets en route to 23 points,
and Christian Kesler scored 12 points for the Tar Heels, who are
coached by Spencer Harrell.
First-half standings: 1T. Ducks, Spurs, 4-1; 3. Hawks, 3-2; 4. Tar
Heels, 2-3; 5T. Artists, Kings, 1-4.
