Breakers at No. 3 in boys’ volleyball poll

The Laguna Beach High boys’ volleyball team has climbed back into

a familiar spot in the CIF-Southern Section Division II poll.

A week after slipping to No. 4, Laguna has returned to a No. 3

ranking in the latest poll released Tuesday by the Southern Section

office in Los Alamitos.

Laguna, coming off big wins over Corona del Mar and University,

wrapped up its regular season Thursday. Santa Barbara was voted the

No. 1 team for the third consecutive poll, followed by Corona del

Mar.

Tesoro, another Pacific Coast League foe of Laguna’s, climbed to

No. 4 in the rankings, giving the league three of the top five spots.

Defending division champion Valencia of Valencia, ranked No. 1 for

much of the 2005 season, slipped to sixth.

The Division II poll: 1. Santa Barbara; 2. Corona del Mar; 3.

Laguna Beach; 4. Tesoro; 5. Arcadia; 6. Valencia/Valencia; 7. Dos

Pueblos; 8. San Marcos; 9. San Luis Obispo; 10. Highland.

Laguna seeking hoops coaches

Laguna Beach High is seeking qualified applicants to fill the

vacant positions of head boys’ varsity and head girls’ varsity

basketball coach, school athletic director Ron Schwartz said Tuesday.

Challenger Series coming May 22

The Laguna Beach Junior Challenger Series round robin tournament

will next be held May 22, at Alta Laguna Park.

Play begins at 2:30 p.m. and is open to players 10 through 14, at

a cost of $25 per player.

Registration is taken through the Laguna Beach Community Services,

located at 515 Forest Ave.

Deadline for entries is by 4 p.m. on Thurs., May 18.

Players sought for girls’ tennis team

Any 12-and-under girl who would like to play junior team tennis is
