Estancia High freshman Ellie Edles swept at No. 1 singles to help the
host Eagles earn a 14-4 nonleague girls tennis win over Magnolia
Monday.
The Estancia doubles tandem of seniors Sage O’Toole and Cathy
Pittman also swept for the Eagles (3-2), who open Golden West League
play today against visiting Costa Mesa.

Eagles handle visitors
* GOLF: Junior Bridget Gleason shot 2-over-par 37 to earn medalist
honors and lead the host Estancia High girls golf team to a 218-304
win over Ocean View in the Golden West League opener Monday at Costa
Mesa Golf & Country Club.
Lina You (39), Lauren Cushing (45), Lauren Donner (47) and Josie
Flores (50) rounded out the scorers for the Eagles (6-1, 1-0 in
league).
Ocean View is 1-2, 0-1.
Chen records eagle
* GOLF: Sage Hill School sophomore Justine Chen eagled the Par 4
No. 7 hole at Strawberry Farms Golf Club Monday and earned medalist
honors in the Lightning’s 215-232 nonleague girls golf loss to Mater
Dei.
Chen was 2-under-par (33) over nine holes, five shots better than
the closest competitor.
Ema Koh and Natalie Kraft shot 45 for the Lightning (2-1).
Mater Dei improved to 2-0.
Pirates avert loss
* SOCCER: Freshman midfielder David Barnett tapped in a loose ball
in the waning moments of second-half injury time to help the host
Orange Coast College men’s soccer team salvage a 1-1 draw with No.
8-ranked L.A. Harbor Monday in nonconference play.
Coast (4-1-3) outshot its visitors, 9-4, while Pirates’ goalie
Trent Painter recorded three saves. Stephen Merriwether collected
four saves for the Seahawks, who improve to 6-0-2.
OCC plays host to Cuyamaca at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
UCI players lauded
* VOLLEYBALL: UC Irvine senior middle blockers Amanda Vazquez and
Whitney Pavlik earned all-tournament honors after helping the
Anteaters finish second at the Florida tournament completed Saturday
in Gainesville, Fla.
Vazquez totaled 22 kills, eight total blocks and scooped up a
career-high 11 digs in a four-game win over Eastern Michigan that
preceded the Anteaters’ three-game loss to the host Gators Saturday
night.
Pavlik was errorless against Eastern Michigan, putting away 13
kills on 34 swings. She finished the tournament with 18 kills, 11
digs, four blocks and a .356 hitting percentage.
Through Sunday, Pavlik is ranked 15th in the nation in hitting
percentage.
The Anteaters (5-6) play host to St. Mary’s Friday.
