Fact of the day: At summer meetings, Pac-12 officials approved a spotter system for football games. Each team can have a designated spotter to watch the game on a monitor with new video technology that will allow them to rewind, pause, zoom and change camera angles to evaluate the extent of player injuries during the game. The spotter will have direct communication to coaches and medical personnel.
In The Times:
- Defensive back Lamont Simmons will transfer
- USC-bound Matt Katnik wins the shot put at the CIF state track and field championships
